DISCOVERY, COMPETITION, LEARNING, AND IMAGINATION!

Our hallways are alive with the sound of music. “Boom, boom … tap, tap, tap … clash, clash!” is what you might hear while passing children drumming in the music room. You may also hear the “pluck, pluck”or “plunk, plunk” of violins, guitars, or pianos while private music lessons are taking place.

Pink-cheeked girls and boys can often be spotted trooping in from various outdoor activities including a run through the Esplanade or a Flag Football practice at the Boston Common. As giggling and cheers spill out from the science lab where the Scratch Club is animated, quiet instruction takes place in the form of ISEE prep or individualized tutoring in classrooms.

While our older students are engaged in the activities described above, our preschoolers’ imagination and curiosity is sparked by different themes — Athletics, Art, Music and Drama, or Science and Discovery —during Creative Afternoons.

Whatever floor, gym, or outdoor green space you find us in, afternoons are fun at Park Street School!

After School Musicality

Elementary School

For students in Kindergarten and Grades 1 – 6, private musical instruction for piano, flute, recorder, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, violin, voice, drums, and accordion is available from several experienced music instructors after school. Students receive weekly half-hour lessons and are taught using methods tailored to their specific needs, age, and experience. All lessons take place at 67 Brimmer Street. Two performances during the year (January and May/June) give student musicians the opportunity to share their progress in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere.

Ice Skating at the Boston Common Frog Pond
Is there any better place to learn how to ice skate in the winter than on the Frog Pond at the beautiful and historic Boston Common? No previous skating experience is necessary.
Scratch + Programming + Robots — Oh, My!
Children learn Scratch, Code.org, robotics, and offline programming as well as how to troubleshoot and solve everyday computer and iPad problems. They apply this knowledge to a student-run technology help desk.
Drama and Acting
Children work as an ensemble on a short scripted play. In a nurturing space, they explore improv, character development, and production. The goal is to introduce performance to children as well as develop their individual voice and confidence.
Become a Chess Wizard!
Each child is challenged by fun games and lessons from real chess Wizard teachers. Specifically designed classes cater to all levels of chess ability and teach your child to think logically, solve problems, win graciously, and learn from defeat.
